Em O Navio e o Mar, Everlane e Lara partem cada uma de um lado do Atlântico para navegar em uma íntima e intensa costura/história oceânica em busca de um lugar-de-encontro, ao mesmo tempo que reconstroem as suas próprias narrativas, produzindo novas imagens, memórias e identidades.

Lara e Everlane, ao cruzarem suas histórias e embarcarem nesta longa viagem de descobertas, apontam para questões muito sérias e atualizadas para a comunidade negra:

Direito à individualidade e à subjetividade. Embora sejam duas mulheres negras com faixa etária similar, não se veem iguais e partem de lugares e perspectivas distintas;

Reconstrução dos modos de ver e de se relacionar. É impossível pensar qualquer caminho justo que não inclua a urgente necessidade de narrar e projetar outras histórias e corpos negros nas telas de cinema.
Everlane Moraes e Lara Sousa são duas mulheres negras do Sul Global em deslocamento e isso por si só é potente e revolucionário.

WHAT CAN BE DONE BY TWO BLACK WOMEN WHEN THEY TRAVEL ACROSS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN WITH THEIR CAMERA IN THEIR HANDS?
In The Ship and the Sea, Everlane and Lara each depart from one side of the Atlantic to navigate an intimate and intense oceanic sewing of history in search of a meeting point, while reconstructing their own narratives, producing new images, memories and defining identities.

When Lara and Everlane cross their stories by embarking on this journey of discoveries, they point out to very serious and current issues for the black community:

The right to individuality and subjectivity. Although they are two black women of similar age, they do not see themselves as equal, and they start from different places and perspectives;
-
Reconstruction of ways of seeing the other and relating to the other. It is impossible to think of any path on equality that does not include the urgent need to narrate and to project other stories and black bodies on the movie screens.
Everlane Moraes and Lara Sousa are two black women from the Global South on the move and this in itself is powerful and revolutionary.
